Bikita West Member of Parliament, and Zanu PF member, Cde Munyaradzi Kereke was sentenced to 14 years in jail for the 2010 rape of a 13 year old minor.
After a lengthy case that dragged well over 6 years with police refusing to arrest him, the attorney general refusing to prosecute him, then fighting off a private prosecution and a constitutional court order, Cde Kereke finally pays for his own illusions of grandeur.
In a nutshell, Munyaradzi Kereke committed his crimes at a time money was plenty in his coffers during the GNU period. He then placed himself in the Mnangagwa faction and seemingly became untouchable.
Money meant he could postpone justice. Money means you can affect the speed of the wheels of justice. Of course he had help from the now hapless Johanes Tomana who refused to prosecute…he is now facing his own troubles.
Kereke was a key cog in dismantling Gideon Gono. Once that was achieved it meant the guy would be dispensable. He failed to appreciate his role and misconstrued the delay in justice delivery as political protection. I wrote sometime back that Kereke would eventually find himself in the cold.
We expect him to appeal and buy more time outside but money will eventually run out and he will have his time in jail. Nolbert Kunonga tried the same tricks with Anglican saga and we have seen how that unravelled.
Kereke for so long succeeded in walking so close to the tiger and fooled his enemies that he was friends with the tiger and untouchable. He became so drunk with power and went around gun totting like a cow boy…Asi zviro zvese zvine magumo azvo and atatarisana nawo aya ndiwo magumo aCde Kereke.. (All things come to an end, and for Kereke, this is the end)
