As the succession wrangle to replace aging and ailing President Robert Mugabe rages on in Zanu PF a new plot to oust Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa, for a long time touted as heir apparent, has been unearthed by the Military Intelligence unit (MI), Khuluma Africa can exclusively reveal.
Intelligence sources said a group of young Turks which goes under the moniker Generation 40 (G40) whose chief strategists include Higher and Tertiary Education minister Jonathan Moyo, Zanu PF national commissar Saviour Kasukuwere and Indigenisation minister Patrick Zhuwao, are in the process of making a damning documentary which will be posted on social media and aimed at discrediting Mnangagwa in the event of an extra ordinary congress ahead of 2018 elections.
“The documentary trashes Mnangagwa’s liberation struggle credentials and alleges that he was arrested in the 1960s for criminal activities instead of liberation-related activities.”
“The documentary also alleges that Mnangagwa went to exile in Zambia with his family “because he was a banished criminal in the country.”
Sources also said the documentary brings the issues to do with the mysterious death of wartime commander Josiah Tongogara.
The documentary also deals with gukurahundi aspects where it is alleged that Mnangagwa, as state security minister by then, misled Mugabe to give a node to the atrocities.
At the material time Sidney Sekeramayi was Defence minister while Mnangagwa was State Security minister.
Mugabe sanctioned the deployment of the 5th Brigade to deal with dissidents at the material time where close to 20 000 were killed in Matabeleland and Midlands provinces in the early 1980s.
“Moyo, Kasukuwere and Zhuwao are being helped by a former Zimpapers editor Mdudusi Mathuthu to make the documentary.”
“Mathuthu is Moyo’s colleague who is co-ordinating the G40 media campaign blitz,” said the source. MI sources also said investigations revealed that Mathuthu flies in and out of Harare whenever there is a politburo meeting so that he co-ordinates the media onslaught with independent newspapers.
Intelligence sources also said in the documentary the G40 proponents want to portray Mnangagwa as a corrupt minister who is not worth to take over from Mugabe.
“The documentary will be released at an opportune time so that Zanu PF members do not vote for Mnangagwa at the extra ordinary congress.”
