    Morgan Tsvangirai dies

    1. IJohannesburg – Former Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, Morgan Richard Tsvangirai has died.

    He was being treated for colon cancer at the Wits Gordon Hospital.

    Khuluma Afrika understands the iconic leader passed away this afternoon.

    Tsvangirai rose to prominence as a fierce labour movement leader, before rising to become the President of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).

    His health had deteriorated sharply as he battled cancer.

    Local newspaper Newsday reported that he had been moved to ICU a few days ago.

    Tsvangirai served as Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister in a unity government with Robert Mugabe from 2009 to 2013, after he won elections and Mugabe clung to power.

    He will be remembered for his two decade struggle for democracy in Zimbabwe.

    He was jailed repeatedly and assaulted to within an inch of his life on the orders of Mugabe.

    As Prime Minister he helped stabilise Zimbabwe and return it to normalcy after a total collapse in 2008.
