Harare – Minister of Water, Environment and Climate who also serves as the ruling Zanu Pf`s national chairperson Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri is struggling to cope with balancing her workload at party and ministerial level.

Currently the most powerful woman in Zanu Pf as she makes up the new appendage to the ruling party’s presidium, Muchinguri-Kashiri is said to be prioritising party matters over government business as the preparation for the forthcoming polls subtly heats up.

Staffers who work with Muchinguri told Khuluma Afrika, citing that she is always fatigued and forgetting diarised meetings.

“The Minister is trying to strike a balance but it seems the task is too tall for her. Her tray is always filled with documents that need her attention but they never get actioned,” said the source.

The Mutasa Central legislator is said to have divided her weeks devoting different days to Zanu Pf and government business.

“She spends three days at the Zanu Pf headquarters and at her ministerial office. On bad weeks she comes to her ministerial offices just once a week.”

“It seems she has left the ministry for the permanent secretary to run,” the source further revealed.

“Things got worse when her personal assistant was hospitalised as a result of what I suspect are effects of fatigue. There has been chaos as the person who replaced her PA on a temporary basis was not used to a minister who is as confused as her,” said the source.

Journalists from various publications who have been trying to secure interviews with the minister have corroborated with the reports saying securing an interview with her has become close to impossible.

Attempts to get comment from Muchinguri did not yield fruit as the male aide who answered her phone kept saying the honourable minister is occupied on all the six occasions that Khuluma Afrika tried to reach her for comment.

After former President Mugabe`s ouster in November 2017, Kashiri was said to have been earmarked as the country`s Vice President although it never materialised despite the Women`s League emphasis on the resuscitation of the party`s female quota in the presidium.

The Party`s Secretary for Legal Paul Mangwana later told state media that Muchinguri`s position as National Chairperson was indeed a part of the Zanu Pf presidium which houses Party`s First Secretary Emmerson Mnangagwa, his deputies Kembo Mohadi and Constantine Chiwenga as well as Muchinguri Kashiri who currently is struggling with playing the balancing act.
